From Discipline to Discovery

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh

I come from a diplomatic family, where discipline is mandatory and education our priority. I was born and brought up in Prayagraj, finished my schooling from Lucknow and presently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Delhi. I feel academic exposure is extremely important for the growth of an individual, which is why I chose the University in Delhi. To be more precise, I felt the curriculum is exceptional. One has to come out of their shell in order to experience the effulgence of the external world and master the art of living. Moreover, the concept of changing cities and settling in an unfamiliar place was not new to me, hence I accepted the challenge of adapting to a novel lifestyle. I didn’t expect much from my university, but only an environment set for learning and positivity, along with a set of accomplished individuals guiding us.

While my college life is surrounded with assignments, due dates and more over assessments and presentations, I believe hard work makes way to success. My schedule stays packed all the time, complementing my willingness to stay busy. Various tasks such as staying active in societies, having to prepare for presentations, practical sessions, fests etc, lead students to stay physically active as well as socially engaged. The diversity within the campus contributes to mutual respect and tolerance for other cultures, traditions, beliefs, etc, also providing us with life lessons. Within our college, we all consider ourselves equal regardless of any disparities, hence maintaining fellowship

amongst ourselves, which eventually leads to tranquil settings. There are perks of being in an all-women college, but not to mention the cons of it, once jealousy and Unhealthy rivalry take over, there are high chances of building up a toxic environment. Chances may be less, but never zero. But thankfully, such circumstances can be controlled by the authorities at the college. Honestly, I haven’t faced many issues in Delhi apart from the contaminated water and polluted air, which, needless to say, is a genuine concerning issue at a global level. But starting few weeks was bit of a task for me- communicating with new people, making friends, moreover adjusting myself far from the comfort of my home. For an introvert personality like me, I wouldn’t call it challenging, but rather a time-consuming process.

The change in me is evident; in the past, I never paid attention to the minute details around me. However, since being here, I have become more observant and aware of my surroundings, which I consider a great improvement. Along with academic improvement, I have noticed myself to be more social and confident now. In particular, I never imagined myself anchoring for a large audience, but now I am quite bold to take up such tasks. In fact, I have been MC for two major events at our college. Overall, I can now come out of that ‘turtle’ shell of mine and experience the progress in my thoughts.

I am glad that Humanity@2047 gave me this opportunity to pen down my thoughts and realise my journey. I

am sure that the readers might also relate to my thoughts and could express themselves well too
